Highly Recommended Lighting!
This may not be a task for everyone but I can assure you that I know very little about electricity, and with some time and talking with my electrician I decided to save some money, so we Just completed our own installation of a total of 21 Lights (16 Lights using 220v), and (5 using 110v), With some? to little experience this is and can be done with the homeowner/shop mentality along with the guts using the proper tools and advise from your local electrician, Originally i was quoted over $16,000 to have this job installed by the various pros, however I decided to save some money for my wife and my yearly trip to Hawaii, So we rented an electrical man lift due to safety and height of the 22ft indoor ceilings we used 2 of our best employees to take some simple notes and instructions to install each light fixture and run all the 12x2 Romex wiring for a 10,000 sq. ft Warehouse, It took them approximately 2 days at 8 hours so that's 32 man hours on the payroll Which Calculates to about $1,200.00 , add the weekly rental on one man lift at $500.00, add an additional $300.00 for my personal time and my electricians expertise to explain how to install and have the electrician do the important hard wiring and switching these connections into the breaker box (hard Part) which we didn’t do!, We ended up with Three strings “ROWS” of lights in shop (Two switches each to turn on 8 Lights x 2 rows using 220volt connections) Then we added 5 more lights in the middle of warehouse using our existing Crappy 110voltage) This allowed us to utilizing the existing three way switches at each end of shop and keep original wiring for this phase, All the new lights are extremely bright but efficient and not overwhelming, we tested Amperage on each “ROW” or leg to be at 5-6 amps each row, We only use the middle row of 5 lights 50% of the time for access, Then when we need daylight lighting we throw the other two rows on for a total of 21 Lights, this option saves us money and keeps the shop running efficiently when we are working in shop, Very impressive nominal electrical usage, the payback should be huge plus for this large 10,000 square foot space not long imposes shadowing, WOW we getting daylight lighting with little less than three days labor effort to install entire job, The Old Sodium Lights are getting tossed in the trash without any remorse, The only thing left to do is schedule our yearly Trip to Hawaii (Happy Wife, Happy Life).
RECAP=Total Cost= 6350.00 if my math is correct (Labor cost=$2,000) ;(Lights = $3,350 ); (two man 18ft man lift Rental fee = $500.00) along with misc connectors and incidentals for 500feet of 12x2 steel twisted Romex-wiring and 21 4x4 mounting brackets at $600.00. We are saving almost three times the originally quoted cost of $16,000k and this job looks and works just as good as any professional installation, It is awesome to know that we can do this and my employees were excited to get the opportunity to learn some new skills, No job is to big or small for these guys, We are now LIT up like King and Queens.
